What is Southern Comfort?

Rogue

Southern Comfort is an Internet e-mail-based club for fans of the X-Men's Rogue. The members keep in touch through Internet e-mail via a "majordomo", which is basically a piece of software on an Internet service provider. The majordomo allows members to write a message to one e-mail address and have it sent to all the members in the group. It also provides some other services and conveniences to the group.

Southern Comfort, or "SC" for short, was founded by some of the members of a Gambit fan club called the "Guild o' Thieves" (a.k.a. "the GFC") which has since reorganized. Although Gambit has always been a popular character, he wasn't well-liked on the major X-based newsgroups or on any of the established Rogue fan clubs at the time and anti-Gambit antagonism was common on these forums then. These GFC Rogue fans were looking for a place where they could discuss Rogue, even in conjunction with Gambit, without having to deal with "flames" from those who didn't like Gambit's character. So Southern Comfort was formed by two GFC members, Bonnie "Dni" Cunningham and Lynn Keslensky.

Gambit continues to be a somewhat controversial character, but those who flame his fans are far fewer now and he remains popular as does Rogue. Dni and Lynn have since moved on and a new president and members make up the group, but Southern Comfort remains as a haven for all Rogue fans, particularly those who are Gambit-friendly.

Southern Comfort asks no club membership fees and there are no obligations other than to be courteous and respectful to other members. Southern Comfort continues to stand by the belief that it's very possible to discuss differing ideas without personally insulting other members and while maintaining respect for their right to maintain their own opinions. This is a vital part of what we are and while everyone is welcome to join, Southern Comfort reserves the right to remove from the group or refuse membership to any persons that show themselves or have shown themselves to be unable or unwilling to comply with this important policy. You can check out our Policies and Guidelines Page for more on this and the few other policies we ask members to agree to in order to keep the group a fun place to be.

If you like Rogue and are looking for a friendly place to talk about her and the other X-Men, let us know you'd like to join us as a member of Southern Comfort.
